Preheat oven to 200°C/180°C fan-forced. Grease a 2L (8-cup capacity) rectangular baking dish. Cook pasta following packet instructions. Drain and reserve 2/3 cup cooking liquid. Return pasta and liquid to saucepan.
Process bread to make crumbs. Transfer to a bowl. Add half of the cheese and mix well. Heat a small non-stick frying pan over medium-high heat. Add bacon and cook, stirring, for 3-4 minutes or until browned. Cool slightly. Add to breadcrumb mixture.
Add cream, spinach, garlic and remaining cheese to pasta in saucepan. Transfer to prepared dish. Top with breadcrumb mixture. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Stand for 5 minutes. Sprinkle with basil and season with freshly ground black pepper. Serve.
