Heat a greased barbecue grill or chargrill pan over medium-high heat. Add onion to grill. Cook, turning occasionally, for 8 minutes or until golden. Transfer to a bowl. Cover to keep warm. Drizzle steak with oil. Add steak to grill. Cook for 3 minutes each side for medium, or until cooked to your liking. Transfer to a plate. Cover with foil and rest for 5 minutes. Slice.
Meanwhile, add bread to grill. Cook for 1 minute each side or until golden and toasted. Cover to keep warm.
Combine yoghurt and garlic in a small bowl. Season with freshly ground black pepper. Spread half of the toast with yoghurt mixture. Top each with lettuce, cheese, tomato, steak, onion and relish. Sandwich with remaining toast. Serve.
